Why van hire in Bangkok comes with a driver

A van with driver suits visitors who want to share one vehicle without arranging their own driving, parking and navigation. Bangkok journeys can involve busy roads, expressway choices and limited pickup space. Send the driver the exact building entrance and allow time for traffic, particularly when several appointments have fixed start times.

A chauffeured van lets you delegate driving and parking. Agree the pickup point, drop-off access and waiting arrangement before travel. For a group, compare the total against the number of cars you would need, including any stops and waiting time.

What van rental in Bangkok costs

Pimstarter publishes starting rates rather than one flat figure, because a five-hour shopping afternoon and a ten-hour day with a run to Ayutthaya are not the same product.

Indicative base rates published by Pimstarter for the Toyota Hiace, in Thai baht. These are not all-in totals or rates for every model. The final figure depends on vehicle class, route, hours, applicable fees, waiting time and extras. Ask for it to be confirmed in writing before travel.

Seat count is the wrong place to start. Start with luggage, then check that the seats still fit.

Seat and luggage figures as published on each Pimstarter vehicle page. Electric guest counts exclude the chauffeur; electric luggage capacity and pricing are on request. These separate figures do not confirm that both maxima fit together. Ask for the actual seating and luggage configuration.

For six adults with six large suitcases, an Alphard’s published four-bag figure does not cover the proposed load. The Hiace lists six bags and the Commuter eight, but neither listing proves simultaneous capacity with your passenger count. Send dimensions and ask for the actual configuration before selecting a model.

Booking, step by step

  1. Send the shape of the day. Date, pickup address or flight number, destinations, passengers, suitcases. Rough timings are fine at this stage.
  2. We propose a vehicle and a price. In writing, naming the model, the hours and what is included.
  3. You confirm. The booking is live once you have our written acceptance — a submitted form on its own is a request, not a reservation.
  4. Before travel. Ask for the meeting point and chauffeur contact details, then confirm flight tracking, delay handling and the waiting allowance.

Where a van is the wrong answer

Two or three passengers with cabin bags moving between BTS-connected addresses in the middle of the day do not need a van, and a sedan or a ride-hailing car may cost less. A van earns its place when you have luggage, a group, a schedule that cannot slip, small children, elderly passengers, heat, rain, or an itinerary with several pre-arranged stops. The van, taxi and Grab comparison sets out the trade-offs honestly.

Common questions

Van rental in Bangkok: common questions

How much does it cost to rent a van with a driver in Bangkok?
Pimstarter's published starting rates are 1,400 THB per hour, 5,200 THB for a five-hour half day and 9,000 THB for a ten-hour day, with weekly hire from 52,000 THB and monthly from 156,000 THB. The final price depends on the vehicle class, the route, the hours and any waiting time, and is confirmed in writing before travel. The published amounts are indicative base rates; ask which fees and extras apply to your booking.
Can I rent a van in Bangkok without a driver?
Self-drive van rental exists in Thailand but is uncommon and is not something Pimstarter offers. Every rate on this site includes a professional driver. For most visitors that is the better outcome anyway: no international driving permit question, no navigation, no parking, and no liability for a vehicle in unfamiliar traffic.
How many people and suitcases fit in one van?
Pimstarter's fleet runs from four to fourteen seats. The Toyota Commuter is the largest on both counts, published at 12–14 passengers and eight bags; the Toyota Hiace carries 9–12 passengers, with a separately published six-bag figure; the premium models (Alphard, Staria, Majesty, Vito) carry six to nine passengers with four bags. These are separate published specifications. Confirm the actual passenger and luggage combination before booking.
Is a driver's meal or overnight stay charged separately?
Ask whether meals, an out-of-town allowance or accommodation are included for your itinerary. If the driver stays overnight, have the arrangement and any cost stated in the quotation. Do not infer an inclusion from the base day rate.
Do you cover airports other than Bangkok?
Yes. Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang are the two Bangkok airports and the bulk of the work, and transfers are also arranged for Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui and Krabi through the airport transfer service. Long one-way intercity runs are priced per route rather than per hour.
